מאז חודש אוגוסט כאשר התחילה ההתארגנות למגן לחיות ועוד היום, הצלנו 43 כלבים וחתולים (לא כולל אלה שניצלנו משריפה במדורות ל"ג בעומר). ניצלנו יותר מ-15 בחודשיים האחרונים. וזה בלי להיות עמותה (עדיין בתהליך ביורוקרטי) ובלי כסף. כל הכבוד לכל המתנדבים המסורים! חיה
Since Magen LeHayot began to get organized and until today, we have saved 43 cats and dogs (not counting the kittens rescued from Lag B'Omer fire). More than 15 animals rescued in the last two months. Lag B'Omer
I went out alone to check on the Lag B'Omer fires at about 11 pm. It was pretty quiet. I walked near Harel school. I met Ira and Dima who were also out patrolling. Dima said Hi, and Ira insisted on joining me so I wouldn't be on my own.
Suddenly I remembered that I had seen a large fire from afar and I felt that I had to get to that area. We went there, there were a few fires, most of them -kids with parents. There was one fire with a group of kids on their own, girls and boys, about kita Vav (6th grade) age, They weren't going crazy, looked "ok". BUT there was a carton next to them, on the side.
I got closer to take a look. Inside were 3 kittens about 2 weeks old. I took the carton without asking. I took the kittens home to my place. We continued to walk round the fires. I still haven't calmed down. I knew this existed but I didn't really believe I would encounter it.
The children looked like completely "normal" kids. Cute kids. Why would they think it is fun to take baby kittens from their mothers and throw them on the fire ?????? I just cannot get over this. I don't know what made me go over there, what pulled me there. I just had a feeling.
The kids didn't argue when I took the carton. The kittens weren't suffering when I took them, it could have been much worse. We got there in time. And still, I can't calm down, I'm still very upset. To think that our kids could be capable of doing such a thing? Khaya
see photo of the kittens Khaya saved, below the Hebrew.יצאתי לבד לסיור מדורות בסביבות השעה 11. היה די שקט. בכיוון שהלכתי והסתובבתי לכיוון בית-ספר הראל. פגשתי את אירה ודימה שהיו בסוף סיבוב. דימה אמר לילה טוב ואירה התעקשה שהיא באה איתי שלא אהיה לבד. פתאום נזכרתי שראיתי מרחוק מדורה גדולה והרגשתי שחייבים להגיע לאזור ההוא.
הלכנו לשם. היו מספר מדורות. רובם עם הורים . היתה מדורה אחת גדולה עם קבוצת ילדים בערך בגיל כיתה ו. הם היו לבד. בנים ובנות. לא השתוללו. נראו "בסדר". אבל היתה קופסת קרטון לידם. בצד. התקרבתי לראות- בפנים 3 גורי חתולים בני כשבועיים.
לקחנו את הקרטון בלי לשאול. הגורים אצלי. הסתובבנו עוד.אני עוד לא נרגעתי. ידעתי שהתופעה קיימת . אבל לא ממש האמנתי שאתקל בזה.הילדים נראו נורמטיבים לגמרי. חמודים כאלה. למה הם חושבים שזה כייף לקחת גורים קטנים מאמא שלהם ולזרוק אותם למדורה ?????????
אני כולי צמרמורת ולא נרגעת. לא יודעת מה משך אותי לשם. למה היתה לי הרגשה. הגורים לא סבלו. עוד לא קלטו שהם יתומים. לא נפגעו. הילדים לא התווכחו כשלקחתי אותם. היה יכול להיות הרבה יותר גרוע. ובכל זאת אני כולי נסערת. חיה

*Khaya now has 10 nursing kittens to take care of. They need to be fed by hand. Can anyone help foster them until we find homes for them?*
